Herbert Philbrick first visits the Boston office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

(Spring) Soon after his visit to 7 Water Street, Philbrick agrees to become an FBI informant. He spends the next nine years reporting on meetings he attends at the New England Chapter of the Communist Party in the Little Building and on Communist infiltration of various Boston area organizations. Philbrick’s testimony in New York on April 6, 1949 leads to the conviction of 11 people for conspiracy to overthrow the government.
